COVID-19 Update (Return to Modified Rehearsals)

As we begin modified rehearsals in light of COVID-19, it is important to read this document completely and FULLY understand the requirements needed to attend our modified rehearsals. We will be following all Provincial and City guidelines for COVID-19 procedures.

 

For the safety of all participants, any participant experiencing symptoms related to COVID-19 will not be permitted to attend the rehearsal. 

 

Modified rehearsals will begin the week of JULY 6th!  

Rehearsal Schedule

  • Monday – Drum Line – 6:30 to 8 PM

  • Tuesday – Colour Guard - 6:30 to 8 PM

  • Wednesday – Full Band – 6:30 to 8 PM

  • Sunday – Full Band – 2:00 to 3:30 PM

Additional Rehearsal Information

  • As Provincial and City restrictions change so will our rehearsal schedule

  • Section Members will be required to let their Section Leaders know if they are attending or not attending a rehearsal a minimum of 24 hours in advance. Please note, as we have strict staff/member ratios, band members who do not communicate their attendance and show up will be sent home should our ratio be full – NO exceptions. If something changes regarding your attendance after your initial response, please communicate this information as well so that we can adjust our numbers if required. 

  • ALL rehearsals will be OUTDOOR.

  • Should we need to cancel a rehearsal due to possible inclement weather, we will send out a message on the BAND APP. It is important you be signed up on the BAND APP so you do not miss these last-minute messages.

  • There will be a strict policy of zero contact with other members and staff. No handshakes, hugs, high fives, fist bumps, hitting of sticks, etc.

  • Borrowing of any item from another member is not permitted.

Before Attending A Scheduled Rehearsal

  • Please make sure you have signed up for the BAND APP

  • Rehearsals will start off being 90 minutes in length

  • If you feel unwell for ANY reason DO NOT ATTEND.

  • Public washrooms will NOT be available except for emergencies.

  • Access to the Music Centre will be restricted to staff access only.

  • No instruments can be left at the Music Centre and must go home with you. 

  • Every member will be required to fill out the COVID survey BEFORE they can attend any rehearsal. No exceptions. The online form can be found HERE.

  • Attendance will be taken at all rehearsals (online attendance)

  • Ensure that you have rehearsed the music before attending – the music schedule will be sent out by Francis the week before rehearsal.

Items to bring with you...

Mandatory Items:

  • Your instrument (drum line members – practice pads and stands)

  • Personal music folder

  • Pencil

  • Hat

  • Sunscreen

  • Sunglasses

  • Face mask – you will not be required to wear it during rehearsal, however, you will require it should staff need to assist you within a 2 metre distance (e.g. a medical issue)

  • Water bottle – with enough water to get your through an entire rehearsal as you WILL NOT have access to the Music Centre.

  • Any medication you may require.

 

Optional but STRONGLY suggested

  • Extra reeds, mouth pieces or sticks.

  • Earplugs for drum line members when playing on drums.

  • Crossbelt

Arrival at Rehearsal

  • Please arrive no more than 10 minutes before the start of rehearsal.

  • If you are being dropped off please enter Central Park from the New Street entrance.

Monday (Drum Line) and Tuesday (Colour Guard)

  • Can be dropped off in the bus loading zone.

  • Proceed to the check-in table. Please follow the distancing lines on the ground to maintain proper spacing at all times

  • No cars are to remain in the bus loading zone area.

  • Once checked in, follow staff direction to your rehearsal spot. DO NOT deviate from the route you are instructed to follow. Once in your assigned area, set up all required equipment and wait for the instructor to begin rehearsal.

  • Once you are in your designated rehearsal spot you will need to stay there.

  • Set up in your designated area. Remember, your space is for all your belongings as well.

  • Music Stands will be provided and will be in your space before you arrive. Staff will sanitize music stands before and after each rehearsal. Provincial poles when used, will have a designated pick up and drop off area and will be cleaned before and after each practice.  

Wednesday and Sunday (Full Band)

  • as you enter Central Park, you will be directed to your drop-off area (Music Centre bus lane, curling parking lot, senior centre parking lot)

  • Proceed to the check-in table. Please follow the distancing lines on the ground to maintain proper spacing at all times

  • No cars are to remain in the drop off area.

  • Once checked in, follow staff directions to your rehearsal spot. DO NOT deviate from the route you are instructed to follow. 

  • Once in your assigned area, set up all required equipment and wait for the instructor to begin rehearsal.

  • Set up in your designated area. Remember, your space is for all your belongings as well.

  • Those sections working on music will have a music stand provided and will be in your space before you arrive. Staff will sanitize music stands before and after each rehearsal.

If you are driving yourself to and from band rehearsals

  • Please enter by the New street entrance and make your way up to the main parking area.  

  • DO NOT park in the Seniors, Library, or Curling Club parking lots.

  • Bring everything you need with you and line up on the sidewalk, North of the Music Centre main doors using the proper spacing lines on the ground.

  • Sign in with staff and follow their directions to proceed to your rehearsal area.

Special note: Parents Dropping off Band Members

  • Once you have dropped off your band member you are welcome to park in the main parking lot of Central Park and wait until rehearsal has completed.

  • Please do not get out of your car to come to watch the rehearsal. We must avoid having a crowd form by our practices.

  • Please do not take pictures at rehearsals and post on social media at this point in time. We will have our band photographers at rehearsals for official photos.

  • At the conclusion of rehearsal, we ask that you pick up your band member promptly. Remember, at present, our rehearsals will only be one hour in length. Please remain in your car. 

During Rehearsal

  • Make sure all your equipment is in proper working order before rehearsal. Take your instrument out now and have a look at it, don't wait until rehearsal day. Staff will be unable to look at or fix any broken equipment during rehearsal. Should you need a quick repair, the Staff will direct you where to leave your equipment. A designated space will be set aside and staff will check your instrument after a suitable waiting period. Your instrument will be returned to you at the following rehearsal.

  • As these are only one-hour practices be prepared to start right away. You will know in advance which piece(s) of music will be worked on a week prior.

  • This will be our chance to not only work on music and marching but to rebuild our stamina after 3 months away.

  • If during rehearsal you feel ill/dizzy etc., a staff member will attend to you with all proper PPE. Your parents will be contacted to return to pick you up immediately – no exceptions.

Departing from Rehearsal

  • At the conclusion of each rehearsal, you will be directed by staff to exit the rehearsal area while maintaining adequate spacing from other members.

  • Members are not permitted to remain at the Music Centre following rehearsal.
